Everett Brown, age 21, of Stamford, was apprehended on Wednesday, April 21 by the Stamford Police Major Crimes Unit after the department executed a search warrant at Brown’s residence, said Stamford Police Lt. Tom Scanlon.
Brown was arrested in connection with the shooting that happened around 10:45 p.m., Sunday, April 18, in the parking lot of the RPM Raceway at 600 West Ave., in Stamford, that left Courtney Lewis, a graduate of Stamford High School where he was football and volleyball standout, dead, Stamford Police said.
Police originally responded to the area after receiving a report of multiple people shot at the get-together, Scanlon said.
When officers arrived on the scene they found a 33-year-old man who had been shot in the chest and shortly received word that two others shot, including Lewis, had been driven to the hospital by bystanders, Scanlon said.
The third victim was a 17-year-old boy who was shot in the leg.
The 33-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries, he added.
Scanlon said police believe there was some kind of argument during the get-together that led to the shooting.
Brown was charged with:
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm
- Reckless endangerment
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Risk of injury
- Carrying a dangerous weapon.
Brown is being held on a court set bond of 1.5 million dollars.
This investigation remains active and there is a potential for additional charges at a later date, Scanlon said.
"I'm very proud of how quickly the unit (Major Crimes) was able to make an arrest in this case," said Captain Richard Conklin. "It's difficult when you respond to such a chaotic scene where shots have been fired. A lot of hard work went into this case."
The department encourages those who witnessed this tragic incident to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 203-977-4417.
